About the Musher

My name is Victoria Tenney. I was born in 1992 in Hampton, Georgia with an undying passion for sled dogs and Iditarod. Throughout school I would do multiple reports on dog mushing, races and famous mushers. I remember being told by my 5th grade teacher that I needed to find something a little more realistic. Boy did I prove her wrong. The fiery urge to prove everyone wrong and something indescribable is how I was able to get through my teenage years to where I have fought so hard to be where I am at now.

In 2013 after spending three years getting nowhere in community college, I decided I needed a change of scenery to try it again. I was bound and determined to go to vet school and run dogs. Not realizing how unrealistic it was, I kept beating a dead horse. I found out that the acceptance rate for the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) was about 80%, so I applied. Astonishingly, I was accepted as a transfer student into the Wildlife Biology and Conservation program. In the three semesters I attended, it was clear through a few life-altering events that school was not on my list of priorities. I decided to take on the real world with almost an Associated degree of education.
